Workready - A step closer to ready
On Thursday, 10 October 2024, the North-West University campus in Potchefstroom buzzed with excitement as students and staff gathered to take part in the much-anticipated playtest session of WorkReady, a board game designed to foster essential 21st-century skills and professional attributes. Around twenty participants, including students and academic staff, had the opportunity to try out the prototype, providing valuable insights into how the game could be further refined.
The event was a resounding success, with participants praising the game for being easy to pick up while still challenging enough to prompt meaningful discussions about professional growth and decision-making. Many players expressed appreciation for the rich skill-building scenarios, the fast-paced challenges, and how the game allowed them to experience the complexities of real-world professional environments in a playful, yet impactful, manner.
The feedback collected from the session will be instrumental in refining the game’s mechanics, card interactions, and scoring systems. Several players suggested tweaks to the balance of certain challenges, with others offering ideas on how to integrate even more dynamic opportunities for collaboration and competition. The development team is eager to incorporate these suggestions as they move towards the next iteration of WorkReady.
The playtest revealed that while the core gameplay is already solid, there’s still room for iteration, especially in fine-tuning the balance between luck and strategy. The development team is now taking all of these insights back to the drawing board, making adjustments to ensure the game not only entertains but also delivers a meaningful educational experience. The next round of playtesting promises to bring the team one step closer to launching WorkReady as a powerful tool for developing real-world graduate skills in academic and professional settings.
Stay tuned for updates as the team continues to enhance the game and gear up for future testing phases!
